The archival newspaper collection contains editions of various newspapers containing articles and information regarding the development and opening of Eastern Illinois Normal School in 1896, the first precursor to Eastern Illinois University. Box 1 primarily contains Charleston Newspapers (Charleston Courier, The Daily Courier, The Charleston Daily Courier, Charleston Daily Plaindealer), and Box 2 contains other newspapers, including The St. Louis Republic, the Chicago Record, and the Chicago Daily Herald.
