Biographical or Historical Information

Harold M. Cavins was born on May 25, 1901, in Batavia, Illinois. In 1930 he married Alice Daniels, with whom he later had two daughters; she preceded him in death on December 29, 1993. Dr. Cavins obtained his doctoral degree from Stanford University in 1940. He taught health and anatomy in the Health Education Department at Eastern Illinois University for 37 years, from 1928 until his retirement at the rank of professor in 1965. He was past president and a charter member of the Illinois Public Health Association, and was also a member of the American Association for the History of Medicine. He died on January 3, 1994, in Charleston, Illinois.
