Biographical Note: Charles Hubert Coleman was born in Huntsville, Texas, on February 21, 1900.  In 1923 he married Dorothee Miller.  Dr. Coleman earned degrees from George Washington University and Columbia University.  Coleman joined the social science teaching faculty of the Eastern Illinois State Teachers College in 1926, and served as chair of the history department from 1942 to 1954. An expert on Abraham Lincoln and Illinois history, he was named to the Lincoln Sesquicentennial Committee by Governor Stratton in 1958.  He attained the rank of professor emeritus in 1961 after 35 years of service, and a classroom building on the Eastern Illinois University campus was named for him in 1965.  He died on January 11, 1972, in Charleston, Illinois
