Biographical or Historical Information

Burle Icle Ivanhoe Ives was a folk singer, radio, television, and stage performer, and Academy-Award winning actor.  He was born in Hunt City Township, Jasper County, Illinois, on June 14, 1909.  From 1927 to 1930 he attended Eastern Illinois State Teachers College, where he played football, before dropping out to pursue a career in entertainment.  He received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1985.  A building on the EIU campus was later named in his honor.  Ives died on April 14, 1995.

Custodial History

Ives family donated this collection to the Tarble Arts Center. Tarble Arts Center donated this to the University Archives. With the walking sticks being on permanent loan to the Tarble Arts Center for their Folk Art display.
