Biographical / Historical

William Weger Allison was born July 18, 1896 in Lawrence County, the son of Henry and Emma Weger Allison. He attended the Old Moan Grade School, Flat Rock Grade School and Robinson Township High School, graduating on June 3, 1915. Allison attended Eastern Illinois Teachers College, Charleston, Illinois, graduating on June 14, 1917 with a two-year teaching degree. At the college he served as the class secretary and played football. He taught at Flat Rock, Illinois before enlisting in the navy during World War I. Allison was discharged from the navy in February 1919. He taught at Lindsay, Hope, South Union, Birds and Flat Rock Community Elementary Schools. Weger retired as principal of the Flatrock Rock Grade School in 1946. He also was a retired insurance agent, farmer and wool and livestock broker. In 1972 he sold his Flat Rock insurance agency. Allison was a member of American Legion Post 132, Flat Rock; Flat Rock Masonic Lodge Number 348; and other service organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Flat Rock. In 1924 he married Garnette McKeown of Lawrenceville (died in 1967) and married Cecil McKeown on May 6, 1968. Allison died in Vincennes, Indiana on May 22, 1987.

The Allison materials were donated by James and Laura (Eubank) Allison. James is the grandson of William Weger Allison. James graduated from EIU in 1973 and Laura graduated from EIU in 1974.
