Jorns, David



David Lee Jorns (1944-) served as president from 1992-1999. During his time at EIU, Eastern celebrated its centennial, and enrollment grew to over 11,000. He embraced strategic planning and the reorganization of the university into four colleges. Born in 1944, Jorns earned a doctorate in theatre history and criticism from the University of California at Los Angeles. Before coming to EIU, he served as the dean of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities at West Texas State University and as provost of Northern Kentucky University.
